It’s been a pretty despairing week this week in terms of news.
I won’t link to the article that show’s queerphobic tweets in response to the Orlando shooting, but the news about the shooting in Xalapa, and the horrifying reporting by the Samoan Observer over fa’afafine woman Jeanine’s suicide is just gutting and awful on so many levels.
I thought this article on queer young people in New Zealand would be a nice little piece on people I know. But the comments, ohhhh the comments…
*hugs*
Never read the comments.
Except maybe this one… but probably not even this one. 🙂
Ha! You should definitely read the comments on this one, they fill me with Joy! (and sometimes I delete the poop ones :P)
Yeah, the comments section… It’s really hard to find the balance between being engaged in the world and not being traumatised by the bigotry etc. I tell James off when I realise he’s reading the comments section.
There’s still so much work to be done. *hugs* to you both.
*hugs 🙁
I try to avoid most comment sections these days because there is so much poison…..
Hugs back! Yes, comment reading is, more often than not, awful.
There are also lot’s of positive reactions on the article… Stupid people you will find anytime, anywhere…
True, true – I wish I had an app that filtered out bigoted comments, and only left the awesome ones!
Sending you hugs and support, Sam. Hang in there! The arc of the universe is bending toward justice even when it’s really really hard to see it.
Ohhhh I really do hope so!
