This week my comic is running late – because I have had a bunch of work on and because I’ve been making these wonderful puppets!
Why puppets? Well…. let me tell you! On Sunday May 17th I will be doing a comic reading at the Auckland Writers Festival. Unfortunately there is no visual equipment available in the room we’ll be using so the organisers told us to get creative about how to read our comics. My friend Julie had the genius idea of making puppets – so, I did!
So if you’re in Auckland come along and watch Joe and I be puppeteers of our puppet versions of our comic versions of ourselves…. http://writersfestival.co.nz/events/a-graphics-affair/
Also! I will be down in Hamilton for their Zinefest on May 16th, so if you’re in the ‘hood come check it out – http://hamiltonzinefest.wordpress.com
ALSO! I’m gonna be in Melbourne, Australia for the Emerging Writers Festival in early June – so come find me there: http://www.emergingwritersfestival.org.au/event-detail/the-early-words-how-art-tells-stories/
Whose your favorite character in Steven Universe? Mines probably Garnet
Ohhhhhhh I don’t know! I really relate to Steven, but I really really love Garnet and Amethyst, and Connie! Oh, and the lion too <3
There’s a lot of great characters which is another reason I love it. Amethyst is a cool person that would be fun to hang out with, Connie is great and I love her relationship with Steven, lion would be an cool pet, and Sadie is very nice. They do a great job with character development that it’s hard to not like characters and it gives so many feels
Yeh, when I first started to watch it I thought ‘oh yeh, it’s just a regular cartoon’, but as it went on I realised just how clever and deep it is – and the character development is so wonderfully and lovingly done. I’m quite flabbergasted.
I can’t stop listening to Garnet’s song!!
It is so good! I watched Jailbreak again as I did this comic, because it is so amazing.
I rewatched Jailbreak as soon as I could too! Love that show, love your work too Sam 🙂
I wanted to tell you that I just finished reading your entire comic, and I just wanted to thank you for sharing your story, hearing about others who don’t like the straight/bi/gay bi gender labeling, I myself am a weird/clumsy/geeky/gay/male/Kitsune furry/Wiccan and my boyfriend a weird/Geeky/Pan/male/fox furry/otherkin and still discovering. I can’t imagine having a different gender than I am physically, so I won’t lie and say I understand you, I mean I can barely understand other people regardless of physical or mental genders or identities. But I will say that I think your story is beautiful, and having people like you”and I don’t mean your gender/identity/sexuality/etc.” I mean people willing to share their stories or beliefs through comics like these makes the world one step closer to the day when all people of the world no longer care about others physical gender/mental gender/sexuality/identity/etc. and just are allowed to be themselves.
Now I don’t know if you’ll ever see, read, or reply to this message with all the other you must get, but I just wanted to say or rather write my feelings on the matter, oh and you are a cool dude
-Just another strange little person on this strange little world
I wanted to drop a note about this particular comic of yours. My partner and I have both (individually) been going through a lot this year, which has resulted in our relationship essentially being an ebb and flow of which of us is leaning on the other (and thus equally who is supporting whom). Then you posted this particular comic which is a pretty (comically – pun intended) accurate snapshot of some of our days recently. It’s already become one of our ‘things’ to jokingly whine “But I’m too sensitive!”
The best part is… It seems to have helped us understand each other’s momentary moods a little better, too.
Tldr: thank you for your wonderful comics, and please don’t stop! I look forward each week(ish) to finding out a new one has been posted!
-Sincerely,
One of your biggest USA fanfolks
