This is page one of three of my comic I drew for the Anything That Loves anthology, which you should totally get ’cause it’s amazing!

I do find words for sexuality frustrating and largely unhelpful for the nonbinary. Ultimately it’s not something I have much cause to discuss with others, but it annoys me not to have a good word in my head.
Not just sexuality, though. Isn’t it that way for much of the English language?
Part of the reason I used to consider homosexuality, transsexuality, and the like to be weird was because it didn’t fit into typical language. I remember reading through Dar! and pausing to reread about the part where Erika describes herself trying to IDENTIFY herself, because she’d been so sure she wasn’t interested in guys that she didn’t feel that “bisexual” was an accurate description.
I knew she was with her now-husband at the time because I started reading the comic late, but flipping through the earlier ones I just assumed she was bisexual. As though there were only three real options to it.
Several years later, I’ve come to realize that humans are wonderfully complex and different beings whose likes, dislikes, identities, and personalities can’t just be divided into a few simple groups.
It’s a shame that the rest of the world in general seems slower to realize that.
Ha yes – I totally grew up thinking there were only three options. It’s so freeing to know that there’s sooooo many more words and identities out there 😀 I think people are slowly catching on… but yes, some catch on faster than others.
