I know some pretty amazing women – and I feel really lucky to be able to call them friends and family. Most of my role models in both my personal and professional life are women. So this comic felt super important for me to do. It’s super preachy though, so sorry about that.
Really sorry to be the person who asks ‘that one question’, it’s a great comic and the message is wonderful. I was just wondering what you meant by non-binary women? As in afab non-binary people or more like people who are bigendered or demigirls?
Sorry if this is a silly thing to ask, it’s just I’m an afab non-binary person and while I am seen as a women 9.9 times out of 10 being neutral gendered I’m not a women, I’m non binary. This kind of puts me in a grey area in this stuff so this question is partially borne from my own confusion though. (well of course I’m a feminist but as in what discussions folks want me in and the like, I’ve never gotten a clear answer). Once again I’m sorry if I’m being rude or if it’s silly or inappropriate to ask here.
No, no, don’t be sorry, it’s a great question! And it’s a complicated answer…I definitely wasn’t trying to imply that AFAB non-binary folk are ‘really’ non-binary women – I was more trying to be inclusive of the complex and overlapping natures of identity – inclusive of bigendered folk and demigirls, but also the folk who identify as non-binary and ALSO as women, I think there’s space for being multiple things at once, obviously not for everyone, but for some people, and there’s also an overlap between being non-binary and binary identified (in the same way that sometimes the categories of cis and trans also have overlap). I hope that makes a little sense….??
It does, thank you! And yeah, bigendered people and demigirls were just two examples I picked out of many so I’m aware that overlap between identities completely possible. I just wanted to know how you were using it in this context since I just wasn’t sure. ^-^’ Thanks again for explaining! ^u^
No worries, thanks for asking ๐ ๐
You didn’t come off as preachy at all, Sam. As always, thank you so much for including everyone and being all-around amazing.
