The movie in question is Pitch Perfect 2 – it’s kind of full of these weird predatory lesbian jokes, from a couple of characters, and it’s full of gross racist jokes too. It really sucks cos I super loved the first one, and was just so disappointed that the second one just rested on these lazy one-liners.
I think most if not all of the people in the world who don’t describe to their culture definition of “normal” go through something similar to this, I remember being terrified of anyone finding out that I was gay when I was in high school. Didn’t that my male best friend who I confided in abandoned me, and my female best friend turned into a yaoi fangirl and decided to make me her stereotyped GBF not nearly as bad, just awkward, since people think, that there’s somehow a normal gay, guys, girls, etc. and that they have to follow certain rules.
-Sorry rambling again
Noooooooooooooo, my partner and I were about to watch Pitch Perfect 2. We’re always looking for minimally problematic comedies, and we thought this was a safe bet. Thank you for the heads up! If we do decide to watch it still, at least we’ll be prepared. >.>
The trailer featured fat-chick gags, which seemed kinda stupid and rude to me.
I want Joey’s jumper.
Dammit! And I really liked the first one too!
I remember trying to explain why using gay as an insult was wrong. I suggested he use lame instead. He said if he couldn’t insult gay people I shouldn’t insult the disabled. True kid. Let’s just call that guy a fuckwit.
It’s so embedded in the culture that I make a big fucking deal out of it every time. Am I making everyone uncomfortable, yes. Not just gay people. Everyone.
Pitch Perfect was also supported mostly by jokes about fat people and lesbians. Boorish at best.
