This is exactly how my family is, 100% of the time. If we’re not quoting movies, there’s something very, very wrong.
Hoorah!
I love this! I relate to it too. Movies were pretty much my life ever since the 3 movies for $3 for 3 nights deals at the video store up the road. I even wanted to own it at one stage and last time I went to my home town I discovered it had been closed down! Pfft. (Mainly because their new releases were anything 2 years old or below and for $7.70 one night. A little their fault?)
BUT point being that I always feel like it’s a personal attack when someone says they don’t like the princess bride or home alone. Or that they hate Macaulay Culkin. HAVE YOU NO HUMANITY?!?!??!
Also my girlfriend only saw about ten movies as a child and only learnt who Brad Pitt was on our first date seeing Inglourius Basterds. Whereas I’m practically a walking IMDB.
//Rant.
Ha! I am still recovering from Joe telling me he didn’t like Indianna Jones. We can’t bring up the subject anymore, it’s too heartbreaking. But, I really like the Culkins, I wish they were all in more movies.
never ending story and labyrinth are two movies I watched about a 1000 times as a kid!! Love your work Sam!! :]
Yay! Thankyou so much!
omigosh was that a reference to Fire. In the middle. Y’know. Part of that trilogy. I’m probably wrong.
Alas, nope that one is “The Color Purple”… just badly drawn
Our family is similar, except for us it’s books and tv shows (often tv shows that are adaptations of books.
I recognize The Labryinth, Singin’ in the Rain, The Graduate, The Neverending Story and I know I recognize the “did I stutter?” one, but I can’t remember the name.
What movie is the “I think you’re beautiful,” quote from?
“Did I stutter?” is The Breakfast Club, and the “I think you’re beautiful” one is supposed to be The Color Purple but I’m not sure that it worked that well.
Love your comic! I can only name like half of them! I thought I knew movies, but alll I got was: The Graduate, Singing in the Rain, The Neverending Story, The Breakfast Club, and Labyrinth
Oooh yes, good work! All of them correct! There’s also Harold and Maude, Rebel Without a Cause andThe Color Purple
In the words of Alan Bennett “Every family has a secret, and that secret is that it’s not like other families.”
Ah true!
My best friend hasn’t seen Star Wars or Lord of the Rings. I started ranting at them when I found out. I don’t think they realized how much of a sci-fi/fantasy film nerd I am until that moment.
We just had a Labyrinth in the park showing where I live and hundreds of people showed up (many to cheer and whistle at David Bowie’s pants. Haha). It was awesome.
OH, a double whammy!
Exciting that’s lots of people wanted to see the labyrinth. His crotch is seriously distracting, though, I had no idea when I was little!
you remind me of the babe. the babe with the power.
Dance magic dance!
Oh my god, you must have my family! We are the exact same way! 😀
Like… my parents met because they played Dungeons and Dragons together. Not even joking, ahaha.
I love science fiction but I’ve never seen a single Star Wars movie. I’m a big Star Trek:TOS fan. Somehow I feel like that explains it… (don’t want to complicate my space drama loves).
Just a few weeks ago I was sitting in my Cultures of America class and our professor asked if we had all seen the original Star Wars. Only about a fourth of the room raised their hands. I was very saddened by this, although it wasn’t nearly as bad the time I was in another class of over 100 people and the teacher made a very obvious Star Trek reference and I was one of maybe five people who had ever seen the show …
