This is a bit of a different style of comic from the usual – but we’ll return to Sam land soon enough.
It was a pretty bad week last week, as far as trans awareness week’s go:
We have a national shortage of Sustain – so there are heaps of trans masc people and trans guys who are having to navigate how to deal with not being able to take Testosterone (and the impacts of that).
There was also another shooting at a queer night club in the USA.
Aaaaand the government watered down their plan to strengthen the Human Rights Act – they had previously signalled they would add in Trans and Intersex people as protected categories (as the current state of the HRA is unclear), it was also understood that rainbow communities, disabled communities and women would be clearly stated in upcoming hate speech legislation. On Sunday (Trans Day of Remembrance) it was announced that none of that would now be happening. Part of the rationale given by the minister of Justice was: “I can’t hand over heart say that if we were to introduce further laws in this area that they would be well held by New Zealanders and not create more harm.” Which… to me… makes… no sense at all.
In much better news though, the show I helped do some consulting on – Rūrangi – JUST WON AN EMMY!!
