*Process – meaning the steps that the medical people decided I have to take before I’m allowed to go on T.

TRANSCRIPT:

Panel 1:

Sam: (A person wearing a green-grey messenger bag and a blue polo with a lighter blue stripe across the chest, who is looking directly at the viewer. Eyebrows are raised and pushed together slightly, mouth is open with slightly downturned edges. One arm is raised slightly at the shoulder, bent up at the elbow, palm facing the viewer.) So I had an appointment with a counsellor this week – as part of the process*. I like counsellors and I (red love heart shape)‘d seeing my one in Dunedin. But it’s weird that I’d see someone for two one hour sessions…

Panel 2:

(There is a caption at the top of the panel, which reads:) …to see if I was ‘appropriate’ enough to go on T…

Sam: (A person who is sitting on a grey couch, facing the viewer, but looking up and to the side. Eyebrows are raised and mouth is open, with slightly upturned edges, and hands are together in Sam’s lap.) well… I had no idea that transguys existed until about 4 years ago… I thought it only went the other way. Then when I found out, all these things felt like they clicked into place, & I knew it was something that I couldn’t ignore.

(There is a silhouette of a counsellor opposite Sam.)

Panel 3:

(There is a caption at the top of the panel, which reads:) …Or if they should refer me to a psych too…

Sam: (A person who is sitting on a grey couch, facing and looking in the direction of the viewer. Eyebrows are raised and pushed together slightly, and mouth is open, with slightly downturned edges. Hands are together in Sam’s lap. Sam and the couch are smaller than they were in Panel 2.) And so I just kept doing what felt comfortable- wearing guys clothes, binding, asking to be called ‘Sam’ and ‘he’, and, well, yea…

(There is a silhouette of a counsellor opposite Sam, who is the same size as in Panel 2.)

Panel 4:

(There is a caption at the top of the panel, which reads:) …She was nice- but it all just felt a bit arbitrary.

Sam: (A person who is sitting on a grey couch, facing the viewer, and looking towards the counsellor. Eyebrows are raised and pushed together and eyes are small. Mouth is small and closed, with very slightly downturned edges, and hands are together in Sam’s lap. Sam and the couch are smaller than they were in Panel 3.)

Counsellor: (A silhouette of a person who is facing Sam, back to the viewer. The counsellor is the same size as in Panels 2 and 3.) Well, I’ll talk to the endo, and he’ll decide where to from here.
