This comic was inspired by a conversation with lovely Joh and Robyn, who had one version of this happen to them recently. I’ve encountered every one of these at different times; some times it’s coupled with whispering, or laughing. As distressing as the first three types of stress are – the last type of stare is really heartwarming.
I met a little one before I was out who took one look at me and realized I was clearly a boy. People would argue with her, and then she’d look at me, and look at them like, “Are you seeing this?”
Ha! That’s so great! I remember visiting my aunties and one of their kids was like “are you boys?” and the aunties were embarrassed and said to the child “no, remember you can be butch and not be boys” but then we responded… “well…. actually…” Little kids know. They know.
Ohh how I know that feeling xD kids are a ver y honest mini versión of their parents though. Ahh people…
