Oh sheesh, this took a long time to figure out how to write, so really sorry about that. A sad follow up to my ‘I’m gonna get top surgery’ comic. I’m doing a bunch of exercise, but honestly I don’t think I’ll be able to drop that much healthily and feel ok about my body so I’m exploring other options. More expensive options, sadly.
Anyway – today’s the last day to contribute to the boosted campaign for this:
Here’s the link to our boosted campaign, where you can donate to pay artists to bring to life the submissions for our Out Loud project
Oh, Sam – I’m so sorry. I wish you the best on your journey, and hope it takes you to an amazing, healing place.
Also, can I say how much I adore how fired up Joe gets on your behalf?
Haha yeh, go Joe – they’re so reassuring to be around when things like that happen. <3 <3
Ugh, so silly, and so frustrating.
Would you be under a BMI 30 after the surgery?
(And either way, I mean, come on, BMI is arbitrary and is intended as a classification tool, NOT A HECKING DIAGNOSTIC CRITERION.)
Ha! Hmmm I have no idea what my chest weighs! Probably not, but I’d be a hell of a lot closer!!
I’m sorry – that really sucks.
<3
This is something I’m struggling with at the moment as well, and this comic really captured my experiences. Though I also have many people saying that “it will be healthy for you to lose some weight anyway”. I feel so frustrated and alone, and to be honest, also jealous for those who can just get top surgery without thinking about their weight at all.
Argh, I know those feels – it’s hard to talk about, every time I start talking about it, i’m like “I know I’m fat, this is not news to me – I just really like being a big chubby guy”
I’m going in for weight loss surgery to help control my diabetes. They want me to lose 30 pounds before they’ll consent. In 3 months. If I could do that, I wouldn’t need the gd surgery!!!
Whaaaaat? that’s ridiculous – sending love.
That’s terrible! I’m so sorry 🙁
Honestly, even if they really care about you losing weight, they’d be better off doing the surgery straight away. I never lost weight before surgery, and within 6 months of surgery being done with I had lost 20 pounds without even trying, just cuz without binding I could go for a run and I didn’t feel like I needed an ice cream or soda cuz I was in such a bum mood anymore.
Right?! That’s what I think. I used to absolutely LOVE swimming, and I just haven’t been able to because binding while swimming is totally impossible for me, it’s so frustrating – health approaches that are holistic and take all things into account just seem so much more appropriate, and more healthy, and cost effective, and.. and… sigh
It’s tough to deal with body image stuff, but it’s important that you are safe during surgery. I wish you the best of luck <3 One step at a time
So this is late, but maybe it will help people, here. I am sorry for what you are having to go through. I am not sure if this bit of insight will help, or not.
A while ago, I had some weight that I could not shake. Through some research, I found that many people (at least in the US) have undiagnosed GI issues. I am not saying that you do at all! However, it might be something to research? I am not sure!
See, when the gut is unhappy, it is hard to do other things. This can lead to fatigue, swelling, gut inflammation, weight, and so on. While this sounds like One More Thing to Worry About, there is good news! Bear with me, here. XD
* First, there is a simple list of things that people tend to respond to. It starts with Dairy, Wheat, and Eggs. It then goes down this list into things like beef, soy, and so on. Lists are good!
* Second, there are blood tests that can determine food sensitivities. However, it does not cost $$ to cut an item out of your diet! Also, there is a list! That can be used! Hooray, lists!
* Third, if you do end up sensitive to something, sit down with some paper. Write down all of the things that are NOT that, that you enjoy! It will be a longer list! Hooray! 😀 for example, wheat might be on someone’s list, but potatoes aren’t! Neither is delicious rice! Huzzah! 😀
One way to test for GI issues that I have found (I am not a doctor) is to try something like Prilosec (under doctoral supervision). See if your sinuses clear, and so on. 😀 This is not 100%, and a person should pay attention to excessive fatigue after a meal, and so on.
Oh, other benefit! GI issues can end up masquerading as sinus issues! It turns out that that GI tract is all tied together! So, addressing food sensitivities can definitely help reduce sinus infections. It really ended up helping out my asthma, but this is not everyone!
Also, a call-out to anyone with an auto-immune! They are coming out with more studies (I am not a doctor) suggesting there’s a link between autoimmune and GI issues. That is, a person needs both the genetic component, and for certain GI issues to develop over time. So, paying attention to our guts is probably good news, anyway!
Disclaimer: I am not a doctor. I am not a doctor. I am not a doctor. I’m a person who has had, unfortunately! lots of reasons to research all of this. XD I am not a doctor.
