My heart feels heavy for all the queer and trans people of colour, and the queer and trans muslims in America right now. It feels hard, because some of this violence is faced by queer and trans folk of colour every day, all over the world, and in New Zealand. It seems all a bit hopeless right now – the violence is continuing, our prime minister is trying to gloss over how targeted the attacks were, and Queer muslim’s are having to speak out against these events, as if they aren’t already having to deal with so much.
I don’t know. If you have kindness, spread that kindness.
*hugs*
I’m still processing this whole thing.
And hoping the widespread horror leads to some positive change.
Sharing the stories of Queer folks, especially those of colour, who speak out at this time.
Spreas the truth – Spread the love for the truth tellers?
I hope so anyway.
*hugs all around*
(((Not to take away from the very important and real message here but the “bomb” in target was found to be a failed drug cook and was unrelated to Target’s position on LGBTQ stuff, see https://lexiecannes.com/2016/06/09/update-explosion-in-target-womens-bathroom-likely-not-trans-policy-related/)))
As a note from a Floridian: The bar in Orlando was not a Latinx gay bar specifically, it was a gay bar on their Latinx night.
(I’m so lucky my sister moved from Orlando a couple years ago. Otherwise she might’ve been there. I didn’t ask if she knew anybody that died or was injured, or if she has ever been to that club herself, [I just told her I love her.] mostly because I’m afraid the answer is yes. And that brings it that much closer to “I could’ve lost my sister that night.” Further, whenever my mom & sister have lived together [like now] my mom goes to gay bars with my sister sometimes. So if it had been Tampa or St.Pete instead of Orlando, I could’ve lost my mom as well. And she’s not even LGBT.)
