I tried to change my birth certificate about a decade ago, and gave up because I knew I wouldn’t be able to fill out the form. I figured ten years later I’d have a better shot… ha!
This is par for the course stuff for trans people, it’s just been a while since I’ve had a form to update. Luckily, in New Zealand they’re changing the process for NZ birth certificates – and at some point next year, you’ll no longer have to apply to the Family Court to get a change of sex declaration.
Yes, but without the family court process, people born overseas will not even have that flawed option, they’ll need to rely on the process (or lack thereof) wherever they were born 🙁 NZ has taken consultations about this and hopefully will work something out, as the rights of citizens and residents shouldn’t depend on their country of origin <3
Yeah, I’m in that same boat
I have a similar issue with my birth certificate; I was born in Arizona, and they make their update process quite onerous. You have to do similar stuff, and those medical professionals must be at the hospital at which you were born. Why does that matter? Who knows! What if the hospital has shut down since then? Not our problem!
Gatekeeping is so stupid.
