Today is Trans Day of Visibility (well, it is in New Zealand – where we are already in the future). Last year I whined about it and this year it’s the same – we need MORE than just visibility, it’s got to be something that translates into systemic change.
The conversation in panel two is based on Chimamanda Adichie’s comments on trans women and Laverne Cox’s amazing response.
TDOV can be a really empowering thing for trans people, and that’s awesome. But for other trans people it can be really tiring. I’ll leave you with a quote from my good friend Philip who I asked about how to finish this comic (he suggested the current ending, and also this alternative): “What about an invisibility cloak for the trances if they need it, and a hammer and a sickle for everyone else to get to fucking work.”
