So, this happened the week before I left Dunedin, but as I miss Joe so much I’m still pretending I’m living in the same place as him.
But those vials are seriously difficult!!
TRANSCRIPT:
Panel 1:
Sam: (A person wearing a green t-shirt, who is facing the viewer, but looking at Joe. Eyebrows are raised and mouth is open, with upturned edges.) Joe! Can I do your T-shot today? I’ve been watching the nurse carefully!
Joe: (A person wearing a blue t-shirt and an orange neckerchief, who is facing the viewer, but looking at Sam. Eyebrows are pushed together and lowered slightly, mouth is open with slightly downturned edges.) No.
(Behind Sam and Joe is a building with the word ‘HOSPITAL’ written on it.)
Panel 2:
Sam: (A person who is facing the viewer, but looking at Joe, with raised, slightly pushed together eyebrows, and an open mouth, which has upturned edges. One arm is raised at the shoulder and bent up at the elbow, its hand in a fist. There are two parallel lines behind Sam’s fist, which indicate movement.) But I’ve drawn it up before, all I need to do next is just JAB it in!
Joe: (A person who is facing the viewer, but looking at Sam, with lowered, pushed together eyebrows, and an open mouth.) No.
(Behind Sam and Joe is a wall, on it, a sign reading:) Ward A B C
Panel 3:
Joe: (A person who is facing the viewer, but looking at Sam, with eyebrows pushed together and mouth open, its edges downturned.) You can draw it up but no jabbing!
Sam: (A person who is facing the viewer, but looking at Joe, with raised eyebrows and an open mouth, which has upturned edges. One arm is raised at the shoulder and bent up at the elbow, hand closed.) Yay! Ok!
Panel 4:
(Along one side of the panel a word is written in red block letters, with yellow trim, and surrounded by a spikey orange bubble. The word is:) OUCH!
Sam: (A person who is facing the viewer, but looking at Joe. Eyebrows are pushed together, and mouth is open, with slightly downturned edges. One arm is bent up at the elbow, index finger pointing up, covered in blood.) I smashed the vial and cut my finger!
Joe: (A person who is facing the viewer, but looking at Sam. Eyebrows are raised and pushed together slightly, mouth is open with slightly downturned edges. One arm is bent up at the elbow, hand open and near Sam’s hand that has the bleeding finger.) Is this your sneaky way of trying to get testosterone, Sam?
Oh hahaha! I love this comic. 🙂 Trying to get a T shot indeed.
Hahahahaha.
Going for my first shot on thursday…. I’m getting more interested in the shot portion as it gets closer (I was going to lobby for rub on cream but the doctor nixed it).
Oh congrats! I think portion depends on what your endo recommends, I know Joe is still not up to full dosage yet.
You have to point the little black dot towards you, then it’s easy to open them. I’m not telling you how long it took me to work that out.
Ha yeh, I think I put my thumb on the black dot and then just squeezed it! Hence the smashing. Shame.
I don’t even think my vials are smash-able… which I am thankful for… they like to roll around in their box an awful lot!
Ha! Lucky! I like to think it was my brute strength….
This is why I use gel! Most nurses I had to deal with here in the Netherlands didn’t know how to deal with the vials – and I’m much too sissy to do the T-shots myself 🙂
Haha!! I don’t think you can get gel here for some reason, it’s usually patches, pills or shots.
What equipment do you use to draw your comics? I saw some “manga pens” advertised the other day and it made me think of your comics. You’ve inspired me to think about drawing a comic, just for self-expression. But I need some special pens, right!?
Oh woah! That’s so awesome, you should totally start a comic! It’s the best!
I don’t think you need special pens, you just need to find ones you like.
I use staedtler pigment liners – 0.3 – 0.7 depending on how thick I want the line.
I know this comic happened a while ago, but I felt the need to post. I am a genderqueer individual who is still struggling to figure out how I want to express myself. My partner is a transman who has been on T for about 8 months, and he still doesn’t do his own shots. In fact, he feels better if I do them for him. He’s really trying to get over actually getting the needle into his muscle, and I was wondering if you or Joey know a good way to maybe help him get over that fear? Also, I seriously love your comic. I’ve never (since reading DAR at least) felt so close to another artist before. I hope that isn’t weird.. ^-^” Anyway, thank you so much for everything. Loves!
Hmmmm, Joey doesn’t do his shot either, and I do mine with the help of him (I stick the needle in, but he usually suppresses the syringe). It’s weird ’cause Joe’s fear is more about the needle going in, and my fear is mainly about feeling icky about the needle being stuck in my muscle.
There’re some resources about (if you google FTM + needle phobia), but it kinda depends on what his fear is, I guess.
And – yay for your kind words too, it means heaps!
